Congratulations, you have completed the first project course, BMAL 887, and, if you’re lucky, you did it in one shot. I had to take 887 and 888 twice.
By now, you know the deal, and you probably have a nice system and rhythm set up to get your tasks done on time. I would love to hear what works for you. Please share them in the comments or on the socials.

Course Description
Rationale
Doctoral Research Project II is the next step for DSL doctoral candidates to develop and complete their research project. It provides a focused review of the research method that will be employed.
Discussion: Progress Reports (16)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will submit weekly progress reports throughout the course. The purpose of these discussions is to ensure that the student and their chair understand the work that the student has done and the steps needed to complete it. For each discussion, the student will write a short, informal thread detailing his/her work up to this current module. The thread should be between 150 and 400 words in length. No peer replies are required; however, the student is encouraged to read the peers’ threads and provide encouragement to foster a sense of community.
Doctoral Research Project Guide: Tasks (9)
The student will locate the task he/she wants to complete in the Doctor of Strategic Leadership Doctoral Research Project Guide. The student must read the information concerning the task, complete the task requirements, and then submit the task to Canvas. After the student submits the task, the student’s faculty member will review the completed task and provide feedback. The student will review the faculty member’s feedback and make any necessary adjustments to the task, then resubmit it in Canvas until the faculty member approves the task and the student receives full credit for the assignment.

What You Should Know about BMAL 888
I had to take this course twice. This is not uncommon for this program, and I believe one of the main reasons they revamped the program entirely in August 2024 was to address this issue. I don’t know if it was for the better, but my wife, Michele, is in the ‘new’ program, and it is much different.
This course prepares you for the natural progression of the project. By the time you are done, you will have all the necessary pieces in place to get started on your data collection and analysis, which will take place in BMAL 889.
Bottom Line
The post celebrates the completion of the first project course, BMAL 887. It offers insights into the subsequent course, BMAL 888, which focuses on developing and completing a doctoral research project for DSL postgraduate candidates. It emphasizes the importance of submitting weekly progress reports, engaging in collaborative discussions, and completing tasks as part of the course structure. Students must engage with the Doctoral Research Project Guide for specific tasks, receiving feedback from faculty to refine their work.
The author reflects on their personal experience with the program, noting that it has undergone significant changes, with a revamped curriculum aimed at improving student outcomes. A list of courses in the DSL program is provided, along with suggested materials for research. The document also encourages community engagement via social media and includes a call to support the blog through affiliate links and donations.
This blog has been found most useful by students reading it in order. I wrote a post a week to chronicle my time in the entire program, and for the most part, they are tagged by course. For example, here is BMAL 888. I have included a lot of my papers as PDFs. Feel free to use them as a guide.
