Horror Lovers Challenge. Day 3: Creepiest dead body

August 3, 2013 by robertforto Leave a Comment

I am participating in a 30 day challenge. This time it is all about horror! If you know anything about us here at the Fort you would know that we are hard core horror fans. Each October we watch a movie each night in what we dub as “The 31 Nights of Horror.”

Day 3: Creepiest dead body

The exploding dead scene in Scanners (1981) scared me to death when I was a kid. I saw this movie with my dad when it came out in the theater. I was 9 years old. This scene set the bar high for my thirst for the horror genre for years to come.

We have a Facebook page. Check us out Scary Movies at the Fort

31 Nights of Horror. Night 10: The Fields

October 15, 2012 by robertforto Leave a Comment

There are movies that you watch that are just so terrible that you just want it to end. I remember when I was very young my dad took me to see the movie, The Deep at the theater. It was so bad that my dad was pacing the aisles before it was halfway over.

The Fields (2011) was one such film. It was terrible. I rented this movie on a day that Redbox was giving away a free rental for the company’s 10th birthday. I thought cool, I will run over the kiosk and find something new that might fit well into the 31 Nights of Horror theme for this year. Boy was I wrong!

By halfway though I was under the blanket in my Lay-Z-Boy fast asleep and Michele and Nicole were commenting on their dislike of the movie.

I thought it had promise when I read the preview. It said it was based on true events and it did have Tara Reid, Hollywood’s ultimate party girl and famous for her sophomoric movie roles like Van Wilder and American Pie. It you are a guy you know who Tara Reid is. Don’t you…

Anyway, the fields will not show up next year on the 31 Nights of Horror list and I dare to say I will never watch it again. As far as I am concerned it fell off the deep end…

What is your favorite scary movie?

House of Ghosts

March 16, 2012 by robertforto 3 Comments

The world premiere of House of Ghosts is drawing near!

If you are a fan of the drive-in and the ultra-cool, albeit sometimes cheesy, sci-fi thrillers of the 1950’s then you will love the films of Christopher R. Mihm.

Mihm is the undisputed master of the new-age black and white genre that has been known to draw fans from far off lands.

Making his films on a shoe-string budget and cranking them out once a year (or so), it does not dimish their impact. These films will have you hooked from the very beginning and I can promise you, you will be heading over to his website to complete your collection.

Visit Saint Euphoria films now!

Do you want to see this film in person and meet the cast and characters, live in the flesh and even score a piece of cake? You can still buy tickets to the world premiere if you hurry up. Then you can tell you friends you attended an honest-to-goodness red carpet event and rubbed elbows with the (soon-to-be) rich and famous!

Buy your tickets to the premiere before they sell out!

31 Days of Horror. Day 18: Creepshow

October 20, 2011 by robertforto 3 Comments

Every year we have a tradition in the Forto house where we celebrate the greatest month of the year, October, with scare your socks off, hide under the covers, turn on all the lights, sleep with one eye open, fright fest, movie marathon every night of the month! We call it 31 Days of Horror.

Plot: Five tales of terror are presented. The first deals with a demented old man returning from the grave to get the Father’s Day cake his murdering daughter never gave him. The second is about a not-too-bright farmer discovering a meteor that turns everything into plant-life. The third is about a vengeful husband burying his wife and her lover up to their necks on the beach. The fourth is about a creature that resides in a crate under the steps of a college. The final story is about an ultra-rich businessman who gets his comeuppance from cockroaches.

What is your favorite scary movie? We would love to hear from you!

31 Days of Horror. Day 13: The Exorcist

October 14, 2011 by robertforto Leave a Comment

Every year we have a tradition in the Forto house where we celebrate the greatest month of the year, October, with scare your socks off, hide under the covers, turn on all the lights, sleep with one eye open, fright fest, movie marathon every night of the month! We call it 31 Days of Horror.

Day 13 Movie: The Exorcist (1973)

The Exorcist one of my all time favorite horror movies. It is a classic! It was so scary back in 1973 that they wanted to give it a ‘X’ rating. It was such a shocking tale of terror that during its release during Christmas of 1973 the viewing audience fled from the theaters in sheer freight and horror. The Exorcist was one of the few horror movies ever nominated for an Academy Award (which it one two–Best adapted screen play and  Best Sound).

Based on the 1971 Best Selling book by William Peter Blatty’s book of the same name, this horror mater piece is sure to turn the heads of everyone that watches it. Even 37 years later it still ranks among the most horrifying pictures of all time.

Plot: A visiting actress in Washington, D.C., notices dramatic and dangerous changes in the behavior and physical make-up of her 12-year-old daughter. Meanwhile, a young priest at nearby Georgetown University begins to doubt his faith while dealing with his mother’s terminal sickness. And, book-ending the story, a frail, elderly priest recognizes the necessity for a show-down with an old demonic enemy.

This movie has brought chills to the Forto household for years and we even named our first Siberian Husky pup after the main character (though we spell it Raegan instead of Reagan like the former President).

Regan and Raegan
