It Came from the Sewer | 31 Nights of Horror

For this year’s 31 Nights of Horror Challenge, the Night 21 prompt is It Came from the Sewer. We watched the movie C.H.U.D. (1984) on Amazon Prime.

Storyline

A bizarre series of sudden disappearances on the streets of New York City seems to point toward something unsavory living in the sewers.

Our thoughts on C.H.U.D. (1984)

We couldn’t even finish this disaster of a movie.

‘C.H.U.D.’ delivers surprisingly strong performances from John Heard, Daniel Stern, and the ensemble cast, with nostalgic 80s charm and gritty atmosphere that fans of the era appreciate. However, the film suffers from painfully slow pacing and insufficient monster appearances, leaving many viewers bored despite the intriguing premise. The creature design and horror effectiveness divide audiences, with some finding it effectively creepy while others consider it unscary with cheap effects, making it primarily appeal to cult classic enthusiasts.

1 out of 10 stars

Lots of talk about people missing. Pointless side characters and story. Barely a Chud in sight throughout the entire movie. The movie is bad which is a shame because the concept, idea is great. Missed opportunity.

Trivia

One of John Goodman’s first movie appearances. He plays a Cop in the diner.

Was part of Jordan Peele’s inspiration for his 2019 Horror movie “US” and a VHS version of C.H.U.D can be seen in the movie.
