Blumhouse | 31 Nights of Horror

Storyline

Tree Gelbman discovers that dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead.

‘Happy Death Day 2U’ delivers outstanding performances, particularly from Jessica Rothe, with genuinely funny moments and impressive character development that expands the universe. However, the sequel divides audiences with its dramatic shift from horror-comedy to sci-fi comedy, significantly reduced scares, and mixed writing quality. While some praise the bold genre blending and creative direction, others find the convoluted plot messy and less fresh than the original, making it an entertaining but polarizing follow-up.

Out thoughts of Happy Death Day 2U (2019)

First film was brilliant, second was unwatchable because it was so bad.

Couldn’t even finish watching this, the plot changed completely from the first one and spent at least 30% in referencing it. Terrible CGI, horrendous acting, none of the charm or horror from the first, and lazy writing. This could have been done so much better but it was cringey and became a weird sci-fi comedy. Don’t waste your time.

Trivia

Director Christopher Landon announced plans for a third film as soon as production wrapped, and stated that it “expands the world in a significant way” and “it’s very much connected to the tag at the end of this movie.” However, in July 2019, he quelled rumors on X that development was already underway, stating that with what he has planned for the threequel, it will not be happening unless Netflix is interested to invest.
