Stoners | 31 Nights of Horror

For this year’s 31 Nights of Horror Challenge, the Night 10 prompt is Stoners. We watched the movie Scary Movie (2000) on Amazon Prime

Storyline

A year after disposing of the body of a man they accidentally killed, a group of dumb teenagers are stalked by a bumbling serial killer.

‘Scary Movie’ delivers hilarious parody entertainment with standout performances from Anna Faris and the Wayans brothers, effectively mocking horror films through clever physical comedy and raunchy humor. While the genre-blending approach and visual gags earn widespread praise, the writing divides audiences with some finding it clever and others calling it abysmal. The film’s over-the-top style and pacing issues, particularly losing momentum in the final act, create mixed reactions, though most appreciate its good-natured, unpretentious charm.

Our thoughts on Scary Movie (2000)

It is remarkable that every single line and scene in this movie is a trigger warning in 2026.

Scary movie was a fairly good movie, and I don’t regret watching it. The jokes are funny but I think that this film just makes me laugh at the sheer stupidity of it.

Some spoofs are funny but only if they are short sweet and to the point. such as how the show Family Guy spoofs on tons of old movies and shows. off subject yes but it proves my point.

This movie has a rating for adults but a plot line for the immature. this is an overdone movie that the world could have done without. this movie gets a 4 from me.

Trivia

The original script featured a cameo role for Jamie Lee Curtis as Cindy would discover her hiding in a closet in her house while the killer was chasing her up the stairs.

When Anna Faris landed a part in the film, she was working in an ad agency and was only a week away from moving to her company’s London office.

(at around 40 mins) The “Wazzup” scene is a parody of a 1999 Budweiser TV commercial titled “True”. The scene was a late addition to the film: the commercial debuted towards the end of filming, and the scene was shot after previews had already begun.

In the principal’s office there is a sign that says “Shotz” beer, which was the beer company in Laverne and Shirley. David Lander, who plays Principal Squigman, played Squiggy in that show.
