For this year’s 31 Nights of Horror Challenge, the Day 30 prompt is Cause of Death. We watched the movie, Cabin Fever on Amazon Prime.

Storyline

College friends Paul, Karen, Bert, Marcy and Jeff rent an isolated cabin in the woods to spend a week together. When they arrive, a man contaminated with a weird disease asks them for help, but they panic and burn the man, who falls into the water reservoir and dies. The whole group, except Karen, makes a pact to drink only beer the rest of the week without knowing where the dead body is. When Karen drinks tap water and gets the disease, the group begins their journey to hell.

Out Thoughts on Cabin Fever (2002)

This was a fun one. A few years ago I took part in a blog challenge for horror themes and one of the prompts was. cause of death, and I thought by far is one in this movie, Cabin Fever (2002) where, late in the movie, a guy dies by joking on a harmonica!

Other than that though, this movie gets a solid 6 stars. Director Eli Roth’s first movie, “Cabin Fever“, has been considered a breath of fresh air and a wake up call for the horror genre; while it is certainly different from most of this generation horror movies, the movie has a few big flaws that hurt the film and make the experience no as satisfying.

6 out of 10 stars

Trivia

Crew member Robert Jones took home the decapitated body prop once the film wrapped, and was pulled over while driving home by police officers at gunpoint who thought the corpse in the passenger seat was real. The police held Jones at gunpoint until they were able to confirm the lifelike body was only a prop.

Director Eli Roth originally got the idea for this movie while working in Iceland on a horse farm. He got such a bad skin infection from the rotting hay in the barn that his face broke out in sores, bled and peeled off when he shaved.
