Stormy Night | 31 Nights of Horror

For this year’s 31 Nights of Horror Challenge, the Day 30 prompt is Stormy Night. We watched Take Shelter on Amazon Prime.

Storyline

Curtis, a father and husband, is starting to experience bad dreams and hallucinations. Assuming mental illness, he seeks medical help and counseling. However, fearing the worst, he starts building an elaborate and expensive storm shelter in their backyard. This storm shelter threatens to tear apart his family, threatens his sanity and his standing in the community, but he builds it to save his family’s life.

Our Thoughts on Take Shelter (2011)

This movie had a decent idea behind it, but it really needed to be edited down. At least 15 to 20 minutes could have been taken out, and the film would have flowed better and not have so many slow points.

Trivia

The insurance agency in this film that assists in getting the daughter’s implant is a real agency with several locations in Ohio, where the movie was filmed. The drilling rig, used by Curtis and Dewart, displays the name of an actual drilling company, “McKay and Gould” of Darlington, PA; just outside East Palestine, OH, approximately 100 miles SE of two of the three filming sites of Lorain and Grafton, OH.
