Would You Rather | 31 Nights of Horror

For this year’s 31 Nights of Horror Challenge, the Day 11 prompt was Underrated. The horror/scary movie genre, by its very nature, is underrated. Heck, when was the last time one of them earned an Oscar? So, for this prompt, I choose one that truly deserves more praise, Would You Rather? (2012).

Storyline

Desperate to help her sickly brother, a young woman accepts a dinner invitation to what seems to be easy money. As soon as she arrives, she realizes that playing “the game” is deadly for its losers. She and several others spend the night being terrorized in a game of “Would You Rather?”

Our Thoughts for Would You Rather?

‘Would You Rather’ is by no means going to win any awards for being the best horror movie of the last decade, but it certainly delivers. The premise is pretty straight forward and what you get is exactly what it says on the tin – a bunch of adults playing a sadistic game of Would You Rather.

What’s interesting and gripping about this movie is that it feels very realistic and as though this is something that could happen or already has happened. It hits home that when people have enough money they’re powerful enough to do whatever they please and get their kicks in whatever sinister way they see fit.
