The Future Home of Iditarod Dreams: Rock this Place to the Ground

The Future Home of Iditarod Dreams: Rock this Place to the Ground

Yesterday I was in a big hurry to get outta here and head to Palmer and in my error I over-packed the very antique top-load washer that the previous owners left here at the house (I cleaned it don’t worry). Little did I know it could not handle the massive amounts of clothes like my front loader extra-super-deluxe-model in Colorado could. It reminded me again of a famous line from a uber-popular 80’s Hair Band: Def Leppard and their song Rock of Ages. the song goes something like this:

Rise up

Gather round

Lets rock this place to the ground…

I was sitting upstairs in the loft area where I have set up my make-shift office with three computers: a dinosaur Dell with all the pictures, iTunes, printer, etc, my Mac Mini which I love and my Macbook that harnesses my life practically, and all of my radio equipment for the production of The Dog Doctor Radio Show and Mush! You Huskies. As I was sitting her I heard the washer go into the first spin cycle and all of the sudden the entire house began shaking. I am talking earthquake style! one of my microphone stands literally walked across the desk from all the shaking. (Please Note: the author is not taking any literary liberty in his story telling here).

I jumped from the chair and ran downstairs to the laundry room to find the old Kenmore Heavy Duty (yeah right) 70 Series washing machine scooted across the floor at the end of the little water hoses attached to it. I avoided an near catastrophe with a flood and the house coming off its foundation. You see the house is built on these screw-jack thingys and on my inspection under the house just last week, after my made my son crawl under to fish a wire for the Bose Surround Sound System, the jacks looked REALLY stable. I guess I will have to crawl under there and avoid the spiders and creepy-crawly’s and hope (no I had better pray) that the jacks are firmly holding this two story structure or I will have a bigger problem on my hands than I am prepared for.

But hey they used to have a show on Discovery or maybe it was DIY or HGTV where they showed someone fixing a problem like this. Lets hope not.

Thanks, Tim! I don’t need to learn to drive a sled but I do need to learn how to fix a house!

I have to say your band and song choice are perfect! I am a huge Def Leppard fan! As far as your washer goes…so sorry, I’m helpless there. I’m voting for the really sturdy jacks – oh, and no creepy crawly things. Yuk…and good luck!

Wondering how many dogs you’ll need if you need to pull the house back onto the foundation. 🙂

Seems pretty sturdy right now but it might just be a matter of time!
