Silly Scares | 31 Nights of Horror

For this year’s 31 Nights of Horror Challenge, the Day 9 prompt is Silly Scares. We watched the  movie, Scary Movie on Amazon Prime Video

Storyline

A group of teenagers including Cindy Campbell and Bobby Prinze, accidentally hit a man when driving, and dispose of the body, but now they are being stalked by a very recognisable masked killer. The victim count increases, whilst Cindy must survive the carnage that has she has seen in so many films before.

Our Thoughts on Scary Movie (2000)

This movie was just bad. I can remember seeing it around the time it came out and I did not think it was good then. I get it it was made for teenage boys but some of the humor is just off. Speaking of which almost everything in the movie is not ‘politically correct’ today.

There are, perhaps, two or three jokes in this film that work, the rest is awful. All the sex jokes were embarrassing, since there was no finesse whatsoever. The most amazing thing about “Scary Movie” is that it became such a huge hit. Parodies are seldom as good as the movies they set out to make fun of, but this one makes “Spy Hard” and “The Silence of the Hams” look like “Gone With the Wind”.

Trivia

The original script featured a cameo role for Jamie Lee Curtis as Cindy would discover her hiding in a closet in her house while the killer was chasing her up the stairs.

(at around 2 mins) In the opening scene, a movie poster for Scream (1996) can be seen on the wall near the front door of Drew’s house.

One of the camera men is dressed just like Marty McFly (Back to the Future) where he is wearing his puffy with the video camera at the mall.

(at around 38 mins) In the scene outside the Sheriff’s dept with Gail Hailstorm reporting, the Steveston County Sheriff’s Dept sign shows it was founded in 2017.
