For this year’s 31 Nights of Horror Challenge, the Day 2 prompt is David Lynch. Since I couldnt find a David Lynch movie, we went with a Jennifer Lynch one instead. We watched the movie Chained, on Amazon Prime.
Storyline
Cab driver Bob lives a double life as a serial killer who abducts young women he picks up and then murders at his house. But when he picks up Sarah Fittler and her nine-year-old son, Bob forces the boy to live with him as his personal slave. The boy, renamed “Rabbit” by Bob, grows up witnessing the suffering and death that Bob causes almost every day. As Rabbit becomes a man, Bob seeks to make him his protégé. Will Rabbit carry on the legacy?
Our Thoughts on Chained (2011)
A disturbing thriller with a final half sure to impress anyone who sees it.
CHAINED starts off giving you the impression that this could be just another torture fest where a young boy and his mother get kidnapped by a taxi driver who is really a serial killer and taken to his home. There the boy’s mother is murdered and he is made to live with the killer and do whatever he says.
After all that the plot actually becomes more intriguing with superb character development and it is very disturbing and comes up with some very unexpected moments and the final half is what raises this film above many others in the same genre.
The performances are excellent, Jennifer Lynch certainly found the ideal actor to play the serial killer in Vincent D’Onofrio and even the actors with the smallest roles manage to shine.
Overall, CHAINED is a very impressive film although not for everyone but the final half is sure to impress anyone who sees it.

Trivia
Both Jennifer Lynch and Vincent D’Onofrio have stated they would have preferred that the title of this film be “Rabbit”.
In the original script, Rabbit left the house only to discover, unbeknownst to him, that an entire subdivision had been built up, filled with children and families, all unaware of the horrors going on inside the house.
When asked about her favorite scene in the movie, director Jennifer Lynch said it was the game with the drivers’ licenses, which was originally much longer and partially improvised by the actors.
Filmed in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
