For this year’s 31 Nights of Horror Challenge, the Day 18 prompt was Classic Dracula. There are more than 50 Dracula and vampire movies, and I have seen a fair share of them, so for tonight’s prompt I wanted to go with one I had never seen before, Horror of Dracula. It is said that it was called Horror of Dracula because Univeral still owned the rights to the 1931 one and Hammer Films did not want any confusion.

Storyline
Jonathan Harker unsuccessfully tries to stake and kill Count Dracula at the latter’s remote castle in Transylvania but becomes one of the count’s victims. The vampire later insinuates himself into the Harker family, seeking more blood and vengeance. The only person who may be able to protect them is Dr. van Helsing, Harker’s friend and fellow vampirologist, who is determined to destroy Dracula, whatever the cost.
Our Thoughts on Horror of Dracula
Christopher Lee is spectacular as Dracula, Possibly the best portrayal of the character since Bella almost 30 years prior. The film has aged well all things considered, it’s not the scariest movie out there of course but it doesn’t need to be. A truly enjoyable watch with a great cast and did you know this is the first vampire movie to show the fangs?
Trivia
Apart from assorted snarls and hisses, Count Dracula never actually speaks to anyone other than Jonathan Harker throughout the entire film.
