For this year’s 31 Nights of Horror Challenge, the Day 6 prompt is Ghost Story. I watched the new movie, The Others on Amazon Prime Video.
Storyline
A woman named Grace retires with her two children to a mansion on Jersey, after the end of the Second World War, where she’s waiting for her husband to come back from battle. The children have a disease which means they cannot be touched by direct sunlight without being hurt in some way. They will live alone there with oppressive, strange and almost religious rules, until she needs to hire a group of servants for them. Their arrival will accidentally begin to break the rules with unexpected consequences.
Our Thoughts on The Others (2001)
This was a slow burn and I did not enjoy it at all. I have never been a big fan of Nicole Kidman.
This was billed as a horror/suspense movie, but it lacked horror or suspense. It just wasn’t scary. Or interesting. Within 15 minutes of the start of the movie, I was wondering how soon it would end. I had no reason to care about what would happen to the characters, and nothing interesting did happen.

Trivia
The disease the children have is an actual disease known as Xeroderma Pigmentosum, which is basically an extreme sensitivity to sunlight. It is very rare with roughly a thousand people in the world who have it.
The film earned more than $200 million, making it one of the highest-grossing horror movies of all time.
