Week 103 of 186 (BMAL 770)

May 2, 2022 by robertforto Leave a Comment

Week 103 of approximately 186 is in the books in my doctorate program.

It was a long week of writing. We had our big research paper due and I ended up spending about 15 hours on it for 18 pages and 11 sources. I always tend to go above and beyond with the research and citation as this instructor is a bit of a stickler for every single thing properly sourced.

I think I did a pretty good job. Now to wait and see!

Homestead Old Fashioned

April 28, 2022 by robertforto Leave a Comment

homestead old fashioned Robert Forto

Simple to put together and with endless potential for experimentation, the old-fashioned formula of spirit, sugar, water, and bitters is a blueprint that honors what’s in the bottle with creativity and accenting flavors that can be tailored to fit any mood or occasion. Spencer Warren’s version leans into the season for a comforting, spiced send-off to winter. The warmth of cardamom, clove, cinnamon and pops of pink and black peppercorn unexpectedly unlock the fruity qualities of rye whiskey in this sipper, reinforced in classic fashion be a cherry on top.

Ingredients

2 oz rye whiskey

½ oz winter spice syrup

3 dashes (not drops) black pepper bitters

3 dashes (not drops) orange bitters

1 spritz orange oil

1 black cherry

Stirred

Served in a rocks glass

Instructions

  1. Add the rye, syrup, and both bitters to a dry mixing glass. Fill the glass with ice and use a bar spoon to stir until the mixing glass feels ice-cold (20 to 40 seconds, depending on the ice size).
  2. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.
  3. For the aromatic finishing touch, add the cherry and then spray the orange oil over the drink.

Enjoy!

Week 102 of 186 (BMAL 770)

Week 101 of approximately 186 is in the books in my doctorate program.

It was an interesting week this week in BMAL 770 we had to write a critique of a critique from one of our peers in the course. This was the first time I have ever done this and it was a good exercise in learning how to be somewhat restrained.

It is hard to believe we are already heading into the final two weeks of this course and I have just one more course before the fun really starts in the fall as I begin my project.

Also, my wife Michele is getting deep into her Master’s program as well and getting close to the finish line! Please do me a favor and follow her over on LinkedIn. This week she is doing a mock-up Winter Olympics proposal for Anchorage, Alaska. Whoever said grad school was boring!

Week 100 of 186 (BMAL 770)

Week 100 of approximately 186 is in the books in my doctorate program.

It is hard to believe that I am halfway through the course already for BMAL 770 Ethics and Leadership. I am getting docked points because of APA issues that have never been a problem in the past. Just know that every instructor grades and interprets APA a little differently and it is important that you show changes in your writing from week to week even if it is only small.

The first paper of the course was due this week and it was a case study on an ethical issue in the Johnson (2018) text. I choose the sweat lodge incident in 2009 where two people died at the hands of a self-proclaimed guru.

It made for some interesting research and a fun paper to write. You can read it here later this week. I learned a very valuable mistake a couple of courses back if I post the pdf of the paper here before it is graded by the professor it will trigger a 100% TurnItIn score! Be careful if you post your work online as I do.

The Java Screw

April 8, 2022 by robertforto Leave a Comment

The Java Screw cocktail Robert Forto
Inspired by our love for coffee and whiskey, this tasty drink was inspired from a TikTok video and our friend’s YouTube channel. It is something that we had to run out and try right away.
You can pick up a little frother at the local grocery for about 12 bucks and it makes instant whipped cream! The secret to this drink is the sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar on top!

🥃 The Java Screw

Ingredients

1.5 oz @screwball_whiskey
1.5 oz cafe dulce coffee liqueur
Top off with frothed heavy cream and a dash of cinnamon sugar over ice
