There are horror films that stand the test of time. They are Dracula, Nightmare on Elm Street, Alien, Psycho. But many would argue that the original Friday the 13th (1980) and its hundred (or so) sequels, is one of those. Back in the early 80s when butterfly collars were cool and speedo swimsuits, enter Kevin Bacon, were all the rage, a scary movie about a man in the woods who preys on over-sexed teenagers was sure to be a big hit.

But some 32 years later the original Friday is lame. The effects are awful. The acting is terrible and even the story is weak. Think about it; In the hour and a half of this film the viewer is taken on some sort of bizzare first person shooter-type ride where a guy off camera kills the innocent with a bevy of garden tools and sporting equipment.

I grew up on this stuff. I was fascinated by Jason and the folklore of the story and scared to death to go to summer camp. Not for the scary men in masks but the mere possibility that I might have to play strip monoply with my peers!

In a world of constant re-makes, re-issues, sequels and re-treads it is surprising thst some big named Hollywood-type named Bay, Sommers or even Rodriquez or Tarantino haven’t come out with a new version of the hcokey masked killer. One could only hope…

What is your favorite scary movie?
