Week 104 of 186 (BMAL 770)

May 9, 2022 by robertforto Leave a Comment

Week 104 of approximately 186 are in the books in my doctorate program.

We are in the home stretch and the last week of the current class, Business Ethics. No rest for the wicked because a new class starts right on its heels next Monday.

For this week we only have a discussion post and the required four replies. That may not sound like much but our post is due on Thursday and the replies are due on Friday since week 8 is always a short week.

Week 102 of 186 (BMAL 770)

Week 101 of approximately 186 are in the books in my doctorate program.

It was an interesting week this week in BMAL 770 we had to write a critique of a critique from one of our peers in the course. This was the first time I have ever done this and it was a good exercise in learning how to be somewhat restrained.

It is hard to believe we are already heading into the final two weeks of this course and I have just one more course before the fun really starts in the fall as I begin my project.

Also, my wife Michele is getting deep into her Master’s program as well and getting close to the finish line! Please do me a favor and follow her over on LinkedIn. This week she is doing a mock-up Winter Olympics proposal for Anchorage, Alaska. Whoever said grad school was boring!

Week 100 of 186 (BMAL 770)

April 11, 2022 by robertforto Leave a Comment

Week 100 of approximately 186 are in the books in my doctorate program.

It is hard to believe that I am halfway through the course already for BMAL 770 Ethics and Leadership. I am getting docked points because of APA issues that have never been a problem in the past. Just know that every instructor grades and interprets APA a little differently and it is important that you show changes in your writing from week to week even if it is only small.

The first paper of the course was due this week and it was a case study on an ethical issue in the Johnson (2018) text. I choose the sweat lodge incident in 2009 where two people died at the hands of a self-proclaimed guru.

It made for some interesting research and a fun paper to write. You can read it here later this week. I learned a very valuable mistake a couple of courses back if I post the pdf of the paper here before it is graded by the professor it will trigger a 100% TurnItIn score! Be careful if you post your work online as I do.

Weeks 95-99 of 186 (BMAL 770)

April 4, 2022 by robertforto Leave a Comment

Weeks 95-99 of approximately 186 are in the books in my doctorate program.

March has been a very busy month! Not only did I start a new course, BMAL 770, Business Ethics but also traveled down to Washington for a four day, Wilderness First Responder re-certification in the pouring rain, a daily podcast for the Iditarod, but also had a booth at the local outdoorsman show, met with my team at Peak Experience to jump-start the business but also all of the spring chores that are popping up as the snow melts here in Alaska after a very long winter.

The new course, Ethics, is heavy on writing. We have five lengthy discussions of about 1000 words but we also have to do two replies each week and replies to replies on our own posts. That makes for a lot of research but it is good for understanding and concise writing that is required at the doctoral level.

Next week is our first big paper, it is a case study from one of our texts and the rubric is clear that it is only to be 6 to 8 pages.
