The Exorcist (1973) is by far my favoirte scary movie. WE watch it every year as part of the 31 Nights or Horror and it even won tbis year’s scary movie bracket during March Maddness.
The Exorcist’s raw terror doesn’t come from gore and slash ’em up but a great story, tremendous acting and special effects that somehow put current day CGI to bed.
The little girl, Regan, played by Linda Blair is probably one of the most recognizable movie characters in American cinema.
Did you know when it was released in the early 1970s it was so scary that many people were afraid to go to the theater. In fact, a filmgoer who saw the movie in 1974 during its original release fainted and broke his jaw on the seat in front of him. He then sued Warner Brothers and the filmmakers, claiming that the use of subliminal imagery in the film had caused him to pass out. The studio settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.
