31 Days of Horror. Day 6: Nosferatu

31 Days of Horror: Day 6 Movie: Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (translated as Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror)

Every year we have a tradition in the Forto house where we celebrate the greatest month of the year, October, with scare your socks off, hide under the covers, turn on all the lights, sleep with one eye open, fright fest, movie marathon every night of the month! We call it 31 Days of Horror.

Day 6 Movie: Nosferatu 1922 (1929 release in the USA)

The vampyre (Vampire) movie that started it all. There have been thousands of movies based the the suave, and seductive blood sucker’s legend, everything from Bram Stoker’s Dracula to HBO’s hit show, True Blood.

Nosferatu is one of my favorite films and we watch it every year during the 31 Days of Horror fright fest movie marathon. It is a silent film and by today’s standards of CGI and billion dollar budgets this kitschy flick is the roots of the horror genre. Nosferatu is based on the book by Bram Stoker (Dracula) but has a few deviations: the main one is that the vampyre does not create other vampyres but kills his victims and the townsfolk blame the plague.

The iconic scene in Nosferatu

If you want to be entertained this is a film for your collection!

Plot: Vampire Count Orlok expresses interest in a new residence and real estate agent Hutter’s wife. Silent classic based on the story “Dracula.”

What is your favorite scary and/or Halloween movie? I would love to hear from you!
